question...

ok i'm going to be very real for a minute...
have any of you taken antidepressants or meds for anxiety? if so, what side effects did you experience? did it help? what were your symptoms and were they alleviated? my doc thinks i would benefit from an antidepressant to handle my anxiety issues but i have alot of fears from it. could really use some advice.

About 4 years ago, I use to suffer from very bad migraines... My doctor put me on Zolfot, But I was only on it for about 3 months, b/c I got pregnant w/ my 1st son. The side effects that I experienced were very mild. For the 1st month I was a little nauseous sometimes , but NOTHING like when your pregnant. That went away after the 1st month though. The only BIG side-affect it had, was I really lost my sex drive. (But now that I have 2 kids, I know that it was nothing more then the way I feel now! LOL!)
If your doctor thinks this would help, it really wouldn't hurt to try. I have several family members and friends that take antidepressants for one reason or another. They all seem to really benifit from them.
I hope that helped! =)

the sex drive side effect was the one i was really concerned about. after four kids, its the first time i have a somewhat "normal" one. i'm finally not pregnant or breastfeeding (first time in ten years!) i don't want to take something that i'll end up having to take forever. i think i just need to get through the next few months and the stressors that are in my life. i've never taken anything like this so i'm a little nervous. my mom takes zoloft for anxiety and she swears by it:) thanks for sharing your experience. i know what the dr will tell me but i really wanted to hear what people who've done have to say.

I suffer from anxiety too. It runs in my family unfortunately. I have never been on meds, though, both my brother and my aunt have. My aunt has had awesome results but my brother kind of went a little loopy. I think everyone responds differently, but if your doc thinks it could help you it might be worth a try. Sorry I'm not more help. :(

thanks sassy! i've really gone back and forth about it. i've always had anxiety but in the last six months or so it's gotten worse, mostly due to some stressors in my life. i keep hoping it will get better but it's not. i'm a planner and a worrier by nature so it's no big surprise.i think the part i'm really struggling with is how does this figure into my faith? am i not trusting the Lord? am i depending on an RX to fix a problem that is a lack of faith? i just don't know!

Some people are just more susceptible to anxiety than others. Like I said it runs in my family. In fact I have a cousin who is 27 who never finished high school never got a drivers license or a job and still lives with his parents because anytime he tries to leave the house he has a panic attack. My brother is also very prone to panic attacks. Another example is when I had our second son. Before my c-section they gave me a medication to settle the acids in my stomach. I went into full blown anxiety and panic mode. I was ready to tear my IV out and run out the door. It was after this fact mind you they told me it was a side effect of the meds but it was so rare they don't even bother disclosing it. They said "well you must already be prone to anxiety." Well...DUH...you think?!?! Sometimes anxiety is literally a chemical thing that we have no control over no matter how much we want to.

I probably need too- but I'm scared of the side effects. I have major anxiety issues- I literally NEVER relax, I'm a ball of nervous energy. I feel for you.

Hey just started reading little bits of your blog and saw this. Don't know if it's still up in the air but I started Zoloft about 3 weeks a go for anxiety and depression and it has helped a lot so far. I haven't really any side effects at all so far but that's also only 3 weeks into it. My doctor put me on them for now while adam and I are in counseling to help with some issues that you know about. anyway- hope you figure out what you are looking for!
