pet peeves...

ugh, i just have to vent for a moment. my oldest daughter is at the age where she gets phone calls. we don't have a problem with that but have put in place some phone usage rules. here's my pet peeve, when her little friends call they will call over and over until someone answers. that means if we are in the middle of dinner, we can have three messages on the answering machine from the same child in that span of time. it is very frustrating. i've asked her repeatedly to tell all her friends that they are to leave ONE message and that is all. if no one answers then we are not available. she's told them, yet the phone calls continue. i have no idea why this makes me so crazy, hormones? then, a few days ago, a BOY called for her! thankfully themr was at work, otherwise it's possible his head may have exploded. i informed this young man that she is not permitted to receive phone calls from boys and he asked me why! uh, because she's a third grader and i'm her mother and i will hunt you down! i am not ready for all of this.

Oh, the boy rule lol. I hated that rule as a child bc I had lots of friends who just happened to be boys, I couldnt understand why I wasnt allowed to talk to them just like I talked to my girl friends, its not like we were planning sleepovers. So at 10 years old after much reasoning with my parents- rule overturned, they finally saw my side and I was thrilled.

Within a few years time most boys were jerks thanks to their hormones and I didnt want to talk to most of them anymore anyway lol.

First of all, I totally relate on the multiple messages thing. I hate voice mail. And this may not sound very nice, but kids suck at leaving messages. They take forever to get to the point (at least that's the case with my daughter's friends). I am waiting for them to leave their number so I can jot it down and we get two minutes of "are you gonna pick up?" and other random stream-of-conciousness. Annoying.

Is it possible to turn the machine off during dinner? Just a thought.

In the past, I have gone weeks with a broken answering machine and I haven't missed it a bit! If somebody really wants to reach me, keep trying or leave me an email...!

It's going to get worse, themrs. Just wait until the boys actually ARE calling for the reasons that will make themr's head explode!

I solved the phone call problem by answering the phone and speaking sternly to the offending friend. No one gets through unless he/she follows the house rules. It worked. good luck. I hope you are feeling better with the pregnancy.

ugh.. my son is 10 and his best friend who calls my house at least once a week will call and say "uhhhh hello." and then not say anything else. then I have to be like "yes?" to which i get another "uhhhhhhhhhhhh *pause* is Gavin there?" and most times he is home so i just throw the phone at him, but if he isnt I have to then continue to talk to him and have him "uhhhhhh *pause* im bored. *pause* can u tell him i called?"....... my heart is beating fast just thinking about it! hahah.. good kid, but too young to be calling people's houses.
